COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A deadly crash is under investigation in Colorado Springs.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, Colorado Springs emergency crews responded to Platte and Institute for a single-car crash. Three people in the car were taken to the hospital, including one who firefighters say was ejected from the car. One of the passengers later died, and the other passenger has life-threatening injuries.

Police say the car was traveling eastbound on Platte, when it lost control and hit the center median curb. The vehicle then rolled and landed in the center median.

The area was closed for several hours as police investigated. The driver, later identified by police as 23-year-old Jermell Johnkin, was booked into jail. Police say speed and impairment appear to be factors in this crash.
