LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KKTV) - The driver of a semi collided with part of an I-70 bridge and kept going Thursday morning.

According to CDOT, the truck hit one of the girders on the Denver West bridge sometime before 6 a.m., causing minor damage to several other girders supporting the bridge. The area was closed for several hours while crews assessed the damage. Sister station CBS Denver says workers used a snowplow to clear debris from the roadway.

CDOT says the bridge has been deemed safe, and I-70 was reopened. Workers will repair the damage in the coming weeks.

Authorities believe the big rig was hauling heavy equipment. It’s unclear if the driver knew they struck the bridge.
