Person of interest sought following a shooting near Widefield High School
SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KKTV) - A gunman is still on the run following a shooting that injured three right after a football game Saturday.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office released a photo of a “person of interest” in the case on Monday. You can view the photo at the top of this article.
The shooting happened in broad daylight outside Widefield High School, just as the game was wrapping up.
“At approximately 4:21 p.m., our communication center received a 911 call ... followed by numerous other 911 calls reporting hearing shots being fired in the parking lot or near the parking lot of Widefield High School,” said Lt. Deborah Mynatt with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooter was long gone when deputies got to the scene. Two teens under 18 and an adult were transported to the hospital. All are expected to survive.
It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, and authorities are not sure if the victims were attendees of the game. Mynatt said detectives were talking to witnesses and reviewing video footage.
“Quite a bit of people at that game and quite a bit of people in the area when we arrived,” she said.
The sheriff’s office says they do not believe there is any danger to the community and that the shooting was an isolated incident.
Suspect information has not been released at this time.
