COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A pair of fires started in businesses overnight may have been started intentionally, police confirm with 11 News.

At least one of the fires caused significant damage, a Colorado Springs Fire Department spokesperson confirms.

Firefighters got the first call just before midnight Thursday.

Crews found a trash can on fire in the House of Flags shop at West Colorado and 29th Street.

One hour later and just couple of blocks west, firefighters were called to a second, bigger fire at a strip mall.

The fire was contained to the UPS store but because the entire shopping center shares an attic, the other businesses were left with “smoke and smell damage,” CSFD spokesperson Mike Smaldino said.

Businesses in the shopping center include Trails End Taproom and Nara Sushi.

Police say burglary alarms were triggered at both locations where the fires ignited.

“Officers responded to two separate business alarms along the West Colorado Avenue corridor. In both cases, the businesses had fires started inside,” a lieutenant wrote on the CSPD blotter.

They are now investigating whether anything was taken.

We will continue to update this story as we learn more.
