COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - You may noticed more construction in downtown Colorado Springs. Downtown will double the amount of hotel rooms in just four years.

Currently, two hotels are under construction downtown: Hyatt Place Hotel on Kiowa and Nevada, and Marriott at South Tejon and Costilla. Kinship Landing and Hilton Garden Inn were also recently completed.

“I love seeing that we’re offering if you will different types of hospitality products. Kinship Landing is super unique and its own thing. Families and others may enjoy the Hyatt Place and the Hilton Garden Inn. Marriott will appeal very much to a business traveler,” said Susan Edmondson of Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs.

This comes after downtown Colorado Springs had a lack of hotels for several years.

“We had The Antlers, which is great and then the Mining Exchange came along which is also a lovely property. But, for a mid-sized city we did not have a lot of hotel offerings downtown,” said Edmondson.

Downtown Colorado Springs is expecting a busy and successful summer, now that more people are traveling and Southwest Airlines came to town. However, a lot of tourists reportedly travel by car to Colorado Springs with their families.

“We’re feeling really optimistic... we want to be ready for all these visitors,” said Edmondson.
