COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A homicide investigation is underway after firefighters found a body near a fire they were called to.

Firefighters were called to the home at about 5:40 p.m. at 22 Cheyenne Road on May 10. The neighborhood is close to South Nevada and is south of downtown Colorado Springs. Crews found the body “in close proximity to the residence,” according to police.

“Given the circumstances, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to conduct a death investigation,” Lt. Daniel Thompson with the Colorado Springs Police Department wrote in a release. “A search of the area determined no additional people were in or near the residence. Representatives from the Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit were contacted and subsequently responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.”

On Wednesday, Colorado Springs Police announced the victim has been identified as 74-year-old Theresa Graham of Colorado Springs. The cause of death remains under investigation.

As of Wednesday, no arrests had been announced in the case. 11 News has reached out to police to see if a man with the same last name who was arrested for charges in a completely separate incident that night is tied to the case in any way.

Police are asking anyone with information on this homicide investigation to call 719-444-7000.
