DENVER (KKTV) - Police in Denver released a statement on Tuesday tied to the possibility of protest activity in Colorado.

The FBI has been warning of plans for armed protests. Protests are allegedly being considered in all 50 state capitols in a time frame that spans from Jan. 16 through Jan. 20. Denver Police are reporting they are aware of two possible protests being planned.

The following statement was shared by Denver Police on Tuesday just before 3:30 in the afternoon:

State Patrol is also preparing for the possibility of protests, having dispatched troopers to a largely-peaceful protest at the Colorado Capitol last week.

“The Colorado State Patrol is responsible for the protection of the Colorado state Capitol. We have been monitoring events on the national level and will continue to monitor for possible events in Colorado. We support all those who plan to peaceably assemble in order to exercise their first amendment rights. Our agency is prepared for this potential activity and emphasizes the importance of a peaceful approach that allows for safe public discourse for all. Due to security reasons, we do not discuss our staffing or our measures in place,” State Patrol said in a statement obtained by 11 News Tuesday.

Gov. Jared Polis said he has been briefed by State Patrol.

“We are prepared to address any threats. We’re monitoring the security situation and working with our federal partners as well, and we look forward to doing everything we can to protect our Constitution and protect the state of Colorado.”

Denver police are encouraging those who participate in protests, demonstrations, marches, or other gatherings as protected by the First Amendment to do so in a safe and lawful manner.

Colorado Springs Police Department says they are not aware of any planned protests in the city this weekend but will responding accordingly if they need to.
